Things to do in R.I. During memorial day weekend and deals?

Looking for advice on what to do at those island during memorial day weekend. Google brings up the city of Newport! Just gf and I will be driving there and enjoying the nature it has to offer.

Would love advice from locals/experience.

Where do I get the best deals? Any bed and breakfast recommendation? TYIA!

And if anyone has done the drive. Is it painful? Maps shows 3-4 hours

Things I have on my list: beach, bed and breakfast, nice restaurant, museum/tour. Shopping

Check out the mansions (http://www.newportmansions.org). Probably will be packed during Memorial Day weekend... but it's something you have to see. I think there are like a dozen of them (Breakers is a must see), but at the very least check out one or two of them.

There's also a cliff walk in the same area around the mansions. Good views and I think it leads you to a beach as well.

If your into tennis, the International Tennis Hall of Fame is also located in Newport (http://www.tennisfame.com)

Livingsocial and Groupon have deals for Providence which I think is about 45 minutes from Newport.

Providence also has WaterFire at night... http://www.waterfire.org Haven't been to it personally, but one of my friends raves about it all the time.

Watch Hill also has some good small shops and restaurants... really nice area.

Finally... if all else fails, you could always drive to Foxwoods/Mohegan for the day.
