If it's the fomer....Smells like free money to me...but I wouldn't be surprised if Mags.com closes that loophole sooner or later.
Barring the "free cash" idea for a minute, where these 50% off subscription cost deals shine (IMHO) is on the more expensive and/or rarely-discounted titles like Consumer Reports, Make, Audubon, etc. I usually wait for one of these deals to roll around to cheaply renew my subscription to Smithsonian. As a little perk, subscribing to that magazine gets you a Smithsonian membership and an extra 10% off at the Smithsonian online store, a discount which stacks with any of their other frequent online coupon discounts. They have nice gift items. Just sayin'.
