Need travel suggestions in April

New York City?

There are tons of places I can think of, but not many with cheap government transportation.

What kind of prices are you finding on hotels in Washington D.C.?

I'm from NY, so I don't want to stay local.

I think the last time I did the DC hotel bidding, I bid up to $115 or $120. I know my luck is probably slim, but budget was a concern.

Regarding Washington DC-have you checked the hotel websites using Senior rate or AARP rate. These seem to run about $20 less per night than the AAA rate.
We've stayed at the Hyatt Arlington(VA) before-it's in the business district, but there is a Metro subway stop right across the street from the hotel entrance. Literally walk up the Rosslyn metro subway steps. look up, and cross the street at the crosswalk in front of you.
We've booked online, but have also called the hotel directly and been quoted lower rates, requested an e-mail confirmation and rec'd it within minutes.
It looks like $161 per night online for varying dates next week, but it might be worth a call.

The Capital Hilton is listed as a 4 minute walk from Farragut N and McPherson Metro stops-has $119/night available April 8 thru April 11th pre-paid no cancellation for another example. I haven't stayed in this one, but did a search using the Hilton site and cross referenced the above Metro site-looked for specials and variable dates- the Hilton compare site listed a $314 minimum rate-but you need to click onward and see the rate lists. There are lots of Hilton/Doubletree etc.

You may not want to give up on DC yet.

What about Charleston, SC; Savannah, GA; or Seattle, WA?
