New position issue

First and foremost, was it 100% clear to all parties that you would be hired but NOT work on Mondays and Wednesdays? If so, can you prove it (in writing)? If there's no written record of that, it's going to be hard to prove otherwise. Were there any HR reps or other witnesses present who could possibly verify what you are claiming?

well the thing was, both interview i had was through the phone. the first interview was by an assistant or some sort where i had gotten to ask all my questions. they also asked me typical I.T. interview questions.
the next day they had the hiring manager call me and i had another 30 minute interview and it seems i answered all the questions correctly and he told me i was hired.we have exchange email about certifications and stuff but nothing in regards to the schedule.

If you did not bring anything up with your 'schedule' during the interview or before your start date, then this indeed will be very tough to get any compensation out of. You've got to set your priorities straight and make sure you bring anything like this up before making any commitments. Good luck.

Short answer: not likely

Longer answer: You are not going to be able to get compensated for certifications and studying to prepare you for a job. You have the skills/certs, so you do have something to show for it. You probably cant get compensation for being "fired" before working. Did you actually turn other offers down? As a very long shot you could sue if you could prove damages or loss of work, but the catch with that is you are suing a potential employer. I dont know where you are, but where I am (Atlanta metro area) that kind of action would be a death sentence for your career. Everyone networks with everyone else, and you suing a company would follow you around like the plague.

You are a student? Let it go. Learn a cruddy lesson.

oh no i wasn't planning on suing or anything, i just meant like if it was right if i ask for a day compensation or anything. but yes we did agree upon my schedule during the interview.
i actually did turn other offers down.
there was actually a decent offer to join a small company as team lead which was perfect for my major too.

Can you contact them pack and ask if the Offer still stands?

Next time just ditch the class and go to training.

Hey, consider yourself lucky that you know what kind of company they were now rather than later! I wouldn't want to work for a company like that.

If you went into work at any point in time, they have to pay you. If you went in, they said "hey, we need you on Monday" I believe they are obligated to at least pay you the first 4 hours of work, even if you were there for only 5 minutes.

If you had to get the certs for the job, did they pay for them? You may be able to get out-of-pocket expenses for the certs, but it's doubtful since you can take them to a new position as well.

Did you quit a job to accept the new job?

Nada. That is unless they just want to be nice and compensate you for some random reason but that would require them to fill out a lot of personnel paper work or vendor create forms so I highly doubt it.

You should learn, that unless there is some contract you're under, there no reason why you should turn down jobs you're interested in.

Your damages would not be so much in turning down other offers (it could be but too complicated to get into here) but more so in quitting your job to accept the new position. In the future try to get stuff like this in writing. Same thing happened to me a few years ago during college, I said I needed a certain day off and in the interview they said "no problem" then after I started the position it was an issue.
