Awesome router. Loaded TomatoUSB on it which runs rock solid. I just figured out how to load transmission on it, which will hopefully cut my electricity bill. Highly recommended.

If he's running transmission on it then he can download torrents while his PC is off. I didn't know it was possible with this router, going to look into that.

My nephew just asked for a new router for his duplex (two apts sharing the same router). Both apts have laptps, gaming systems, smartphones and smartTVs. They both run Netflix at times (right now, when one apt runs Netflix, it stalls the other's Netflix).

Is this a good router for their needs? I'm not concerned about cost. I want to get a router that will help them out.

Finally pulled the trigger and bought one - the 1 year warranty make me a lot more comfortable with the purchase. It covers shipping back so I won't be stuck paying for RMA's if I get a dud. YMMV as there are some DOA's reported in reviews.

If starting Netflix on the other TV stalls out the first one, it will depend on what the bottleneck is on if this router would improve things at all. Do you know how fast their Internet connection is rated from the provider (e.g. DSL or Cable provider)?

If the Internet connection is fast enough to stream 2x Netflix streams then an upgraded router could help things. However if the connection is not enough, the router would not improve things at all.

You could test this by running network cables to the boxes and play 2x Netflix streams at once. If that works perfectly then you know the internet connection is fast enough and may look into one of these routers. You may also want to check out the Linksys e4200 and Asus N56/n66 since you mentioned no concern for cost as those are a small notch above the e3000 in performance.

My nephew is is Maine, and I'm in NC, so what I know is pretty much long distance. I think they have a cable provider, but I'm not sure.

I bought this last month from Newegg with the factory 90 day warranty. Finally got around to testing the router, which worked for 2 days. On the third day, I unplugged it to move it and the AC adapter gave out. Cisco advised me that the warranty was expired days before I ordered it through Newegg. I ended up having to RMA it back to them on day 29 of their 30 day return period.

I think the extra 1yr extended warranty is 3rd party and doesn't appear to repair/replace anything.

It is a 3rd party warranty. Per the site: repair or replace in 5 days or your money back, no shipping charges.
Make sure you read the print and make your own minds. It was $49 with no warranty, so i'd happily take it for a few dollars more with 1 yr coverage.
