Just got 4 bags from my local Lowe's. They were marked $3.33 but rang up $2.50. I was ready to show the email ad I printed. The manager said it will be on sale for that price in store next week but I guess it went early. Used 4 $1 coupon so I just paid $6 + tax for 4 heavy bags of soil. I dont know what I'm gonna do with them yet I want to start gardening this year.

My DH brought home this mail-in rebate form from a tear pad when he bought several bags of garden soil and mulch a couple of weeks ago at HD. It says it's for $2 back when you buy "1cf. bag of Miracle Gro Garden Soils" (limit 5) but doesn't give the exact UPC's it covers. If you can find the form (and it applies to this soil at Lowes), you might possibly get up to $10 back.

Can someone please post a coupon that i could use...my computer wont let me install the coupon printer....thanks a bunch in advance...

Just got five bags at HD (PM from HD $3.38 to Lowes' $2.50). With their pricematch and additional 10%, and with the above $10 rebate, this was a pretty slickdeal... was going to use the $1 coupons, but the cashier seem confused about the pricematching policy and didn't want to push the coupons on them

it states one per transaction... but most cashiers will take two. or make numerous trips to the car.

Just picked up 4 bags at HD. Brought a printout of the Lowe's price and she price matched. I had two $1 off coupons, and asked her if she could ring up 2 bags twice as separate transactions, and it was no problem. So 4 bags at $2 a bag. A SD indeed.

Picked up some peat moss to mix in while I was there.

I run a website for a company that sells seedling herbs, veggies, annuals and perennials. (will not divulge and violate self-promotion rules)

I do a ton of research and read tons of articles on many gardening websites. I answer tons of emails from customers. Miracle grow soil... Is nothing special. Your local garden centers will have a store brand that will work as well or exceed the results of MG soil. I would not recommend for containers where you transplant mature plant stock. However it is made to amened into an existing flowerbed or garden.

DO NOT USE WITH SEEDS SEEDLINGS OR VERY YOUNG PLANTS. When Miracle grow adds fertilizer to their soil, it burns the roots and can KILL Young Plants. This was true of any of their container soil they sold over the last few years. This is a relatively new product. Their last few formulations with fertilizer was disastrous, tons of bad reviews out there.

I went on their own site and was not surprised to learn this product is meant to AMEND your soil Link [scotts.com]

So this is not meant to be used as a container soil to directly plant into, this is made to mix into your soil. They must have learned from past mistakes and advice to "dilute" the soil with existing dirt.

My advise, if you buy it mix it into the soil. For seedlings or containers, buy potting soil from your local garden center, many even have moisture control features. If you do go with a fertilizer in your potting soil keep it low 10-10-10 or 10-15-10. I used as 18-6-12 and did well for transplants, but when it comes to starting seedlings, stick with soil labeled "seed starter" it is a fine dust consistency and contains nothing that will burn, or anything acidic that will eat away your expensive seed.

If you don't mind spending $$$ (you would not be on this site) Fox Farm Products are amazing and probably have the most research behind their development, they get a bad rep from customers using them to grow unique herbs
