This player is #2 on Consumer Reports list of 3D players. Parents just bought it last week for $119. MSRP is around $180 (edit: $199.99). Picture quality is good. I think it is worthy of a thumbs up. Most negative reviews are post firmware update so stay away from that.

why this more expensive ?

This player jumps back and forth between $99 and $119 all the time. I've had it in my amazon cart since I bought it for my parents for xmas.

It's a decent player, it will also read DLNA and standard windows fileshare for playing Xvid/etc without any issue, but the app access (amazon, netflix, etc) is a little bit sluggish. Still, it seems to work pretty well and is a good buy for ~$100. Built in wifi is a bonus too.

This one is a wireless 3D blu-ray player. Sony's equivalent model is S580, which is now $109.99 at Amazon.

Do you know what they changed or what the major issue has been since the firmware update? What is the offending firmware number if you know it... as stock gets updated soon whatever that firmware # is will eventually end up being shipped.

Several months ago fry's ran the LG 690 with the built in 250GB hard drive for ~$169 (just dbl checked) it got a real quite reception on slickdeals, but I thought it was a great idea. Fry's pulled it a day or two before the end of the week sale was up and I missed out.. This past week it's down to $199 (gotta add it to your cart otherwise it's showing $349.99) @ fry's. Ever since then it's killed any of these others for me. I own several clearanced' out HTIB & stand alone BR players (don't have a lot of money just got lucky) but my TV is an LG and i'd like to get a BR player to get the sync functioning to work. And the HD in the 690 would be just a novelty thing but I'm still ticked I missed out.

This is a pretty common price for this model. It's not that it's bad it's just not particularly hot since prices on BR players have really dropped during & maintained somewhat after Blk Fri.

I think this one offer more value and it's only $29 more. panasonic dmp-bdt220 - lowest price everywhere by $10 [amazon.com]

Would be awesome if it supports Plex.

Make sure you read the bad reviews for this player and consider carefully before buying. I think it's pretty telling that LG offered a one year parts AND repair warranty on the previous generation players. Now it's 90 days repair and one year parts.

I upgraded from an LG BD390 to this player and it was defective out of the box. Several Amazon reviewers had the same problem I did - no matter what, it would default to the component/composite video out. Some people were able to fix the problem by hooking it up via compononent/composite and then selecting 1080p HDMI, but mine wouldn't switch for love nor money. I fiddled with it for a while, plugging and unplugging cables, cold resetting it, and searching through the menus, reading the manual, but I knew deep down it was defective and there was really nothing I could do to fix it.

I figured contacting LG would be painful and slow, given that they already know they've cut corners with this latest crop since they downgraded the warranties. After giving up on fixing it myself, I used Amazon's automated return process (same day it was delivered) to have a replacement sent. It came the next day and UPS picked up the DOA player at the same time. The second one worked right out of the box, exactly the way it was supposed to. I didn't need the confirmation that the first one was broken, but I did the exactly the same out of the box setup and it immediately worked.

Other thoughts: It's slower to load discs and content than the 390 and I liked the firmware for the 390 a lot better. The clean, unobtrusive menus and layout are sorely missed, but the 670 has 3D and streaming options that the 390 doesn't have. This is purely personal opinion, but I also don't like the way the 670 looks like a plain, featureless late 90's dvd player - it even has the tiny, uncommunicative blue display with noticeable glare. The difference in build quality is really noticeable between the 390 and 670.

This is an okay player with good multi-format video support and a lot of streaming options. It's prone to breaking down. If you can afford something better I would suggest you buy that player instead. This is one cheap player that's not a deal.

Just bought one of these last week to replace a dying Samsung 5700(netflix wouldn't stream). So far, the LG works great! Another plus for those that can use it, the LG supports 5GHz wifi (a,b,g, and n radio). The LG loads faster than my pos Samsung 5700 or my old Sony. Only downside so far is the LG doesnt have a 'one button' Netflix access on its remote. Nothing big since I use a Harmony 650. As with any new equipment, do a firmware update before any other setup!
