they need the info serial and mac.. OR you can plug in.. and open your browser and it will point to comcast setup page where they will ask for info like account number to set you up without calling..

I just installed this modem. I just plugged it in and got to the self-service page, which did not work. However, I just chatted with them (quicker than calling) and gave them the MAC and S/N. It rebooted and I was good to go.

I have this modem and, after the hiccup with getting it running, it is fantastic.

What was the hiccup? Nobody has a defintive answer (not even ComcastSteve <--- google him if you want to know more) other than sometimes it just takes "awhile" for the modem to soak up the data that the network is trying to load onto it.

The long and the short of it is that instead of it taking a few minutes to get it like it should, in SOME cases, you have to leave the modem plugged in for some length of time. When I went to bed the night I installed it, it was not running, and that is after having connected and disconnected it repeatedly and being on the phone with Comcast 3 times. I got fed up, left it plugged in overnight (b/c I didn't feel like messing with it anymore), and when I woke up the next morning, VOILA! It was working perfectly, and has been ever since.

Oh yeah, I get faster speed than what I pay for, as well.

is this backward compatible with docsis 2.0, my area hasn't been upgraded and prob wont for a while

i am about to order comcast cable internet.. I am decent with the computer....On the order submit page, it says "do u want professional installation"...i am only gettin internet...is it easy to install? or should i pay the $25 for them to do it
