Sony Closes Zipper Interactive

I can't say it doesn't surprise me. While they do make quality games they just don't get the traction into blockbuster status. A lot of people seemed to like MAG but the Socom franchise has been dwindling the past few iterations (not sure if Zipper was behind all of them or not). They weren't really bringing anything new to the table.

this sucks. so much for MAG2.

Kind of sucks to see the company that created Socom I and II close...but at the same time they weren't doing anything with the franchise.

Their latest attempt at Socom only pissed off long time fans.

Kinda sucks, wish they could just remake S1&S2 for PS3 graphics

They've been pissing off longtime fans since Socom III where they thought leaving the formula of what was working would be a good thing. SOCOM I & II were online masterpieces. So many memories and so many hours logged on those games. Glad to see they put this company out of its misery. What a bunch of idiots.

Honestly, just give us SOCOM II hd, throw in a couple of new maps if ya want, but yea... that in a nutshell. I heard awhile back they were thinking of doing it but now with this news could be doubtful.

In particular for me, it was just the lack simplicity/fluidity of the combat and the absence of a good lobby system w/ rooms both public and private which destroyed future versions of the game. Also the ranking system was basic and for the most part accurate at the same time (until cheaters came along). When you finally received your captain's wings you felt like you had earned it because it literally took you months to get there. The maps were smaller and well thought out, no need for vehicles to travel 10 mins to finally get to where the action is. Things like that made the difference for me. They overthought and overcomplicated the game. SOCOM was never successful because it was a "realistic" shooter, it was successful because it was fun as hell. As soon as they started complicating things it took the fun out of it.

Like all of you I am also disappointed.

MAG and Socom 4 were great fun online..

Just because you have an unhealthy obsession with Socom 2 doesn't mean Socom 4 isn't a good game in it's own right.

If you actually stopped playing Socom 2 for five minutes and took your other hand out of your pants to try Socom 4, maybe you'd actually like it along with the rest of the strong online community.

Really? We are the only reason they stayed open as long as they did.


And they are dumb for putting out a beta thats not nearly as good as the final product(so you say). They are supposed to use the beta as a trailer to get you to BUY the game..not thing it sucks. So another example of poor execution.
