Kickstart Shadowrun Returns

We’re really excited about the launch of our Kickstarter project to support Shadowrun Returns. We really believe in the mission of Kickstarter and are impressed by all the diverse and wonderful projects being supported there.

If this is the first you’ve heard of Harebrained Schemes, welcome! Our studio has been around for about a year but many of us have worked together before—sometimes at multiple companies. Although we’re crammed into a tiny office we call “the closet” with no running water and some sketchy PCs, we really feel like we’re living the dream: working on cool stuff with people we like and respect. It’s a place where everyone’s creativity and contributions are valued and where we can be ourselves without corporate overlords breathing down our necks. So regardless of our physical work environment, we feel very lucky to be doing this and to have the chance to make a Shadowrun game for you.

As Jordan said in our Kickstarter video, we want to make an “old school” Shadowrun game. For us, that means staying true to the source material, creating a deep story that unfolds in interesting ways and designing gameplay that rewards thinking and experimentation.

But we’re not just focusing on people who’ve played the tabletop game or have fond memories of the Sega Genesis or Super Nintendo games. We want to introduce new players to a dynamic gaming universe with a rich history that’s just waiting to be explored. For many of us, gaming is away of escaping the mundane, of using imagination to find adventure, and of exploring the world through an alternative identity.
