Should I close my credit cards?
I have two capital one visa credit cards, they were my first cards to begin establishing credit in 2002. They have always been in good standing, however, they each have a $1,000 limit. I have been told that cards with low limits can actually hurt my credit. I have called CO and asked for a limit increase, but they said they the only way limits are increased is annualy when they scan their systems, and they do it automatically.
I have another visa card through my credit union that I use for 95% of purchases (15k credit limit and cash back rewards), i only put maybe 5% of my purchases on the capital one cards just to keep them active and pay them off immediately.
Is it worth keeping my capital one cards with such low limits or should I close them, and perhaps open a chase or discover card which I would assume I could get a much higher limit with (credit in the mid-high 700's)?
