I have the 260 pc set from Craftsman. Should have made that investment before I did, really happy with my tool set. Highly recommended.

There's no telling, but it looks like the majority of the sets that have been out for awhile all go on "sale" for 50% off at some point. My guess is Sears is getting rid of most of them and they will eventually be replaced with sets that have China-made ratchets, wrenches, etc. The old sets at these 50-60% discounts are a great way to get the USA-made tools at the lowest price.

The new torque wrenches don't seem to be that good of a deal, even at 50% off, with the made-in-China quality plastic that just breaks. There's only a 90 day warranty on them, too.

The USA-made beam-style torque wrenches are on clearance in-store though, so those are a good deal. Lifetime warranty, too.

It cracks me up when people rip on "Made in China" stuff. The computer or phone that you wrote that post from is most likely made in China. The clothes you're wearing are probably made there too. No matter whether they're made, in the USA or China, the company for whom they are made is going to set the standards on the quality. Just like how iPhones are made in China and they're very high quality, but the cheap knockoff phones which are also made in China are very low quality.

Oh, and no torque wrench is ever going to be made out of plastic. Are you kidding me? And all Craftsman torque wrenches now only carry a 90 day warranty, whether it is made in China or the US. All other craftsman tools have a lifetime warranty regardless of where they are manufactured.

And one last point - SnapOn tools, what are some of the most expensive and most highly regarded tools, are all made in China & Taiwan and have been for decades.

I'm all for buying things which are made in the usa to help support our economy. However, just because something is it made in the usa doesn't mean it's any lower quality, and often times it's actually even better quality.

My computer is from Malaysia, and my clothes are made in the USA or Mexico, thanks.

They're metal shafts with plastic handles. It's the plastic handles that crack and break, because you need to turn them to the torque setting for the wrench to be of any use. The beam-type Craftsman wrenches are made in the USA and have a lifetime warranty.

Some of their stuff is, sure, but their core wrenches were all USA-made at one point, at least the ones I have are.

Snapon still makes stuff here in the USA such as the boxes and most hand tools. I have family that work for them and have for decades.

Wait a second, Craftsman no longer makes tape measures. Or do they only give them out in these general purpose tool sets? I tried to exchange a broken one and was given a Stanley FatMax instead because there are no more Craftsman ones.

Snap-on dabbled with putting their name on China tools. I have a set of vice grips that say china on them and snap on. That did not last long. According to my dealer all Snap-on branded hand tools are once again made in the USA. Their value line "blue point" are made in china for the most part.

Nope. But Blue Point has been.
