How should I proceed after a bad phone interview
Hi All,
Here's my situation. I'm currently working full time as help desk support/business analyst (but I'm only being paid to do help desk...). I am trying to get a job starting as a DBA but only have basic database skills/knowledge and am hoping to find a job where they're willing to train me up (this is extremely difficult to find). I've taken 3 database classes so far during my education. I'll finish my Master of Science degree in Information Analysis and Retrieval in December of this year, I only have 1 class left to complete it.
I spoke to a recruiter for a company that I really want to work for over a week ago, and had an actual phone interview 8 days ago with the hiring manager and an employee for a DBA position. After speaking to the recruiter I made it clear I was looking for an entry level position and he said they were open to hiring an entry level person.
During the phone interview I was really nervous and feel like I didn't really perform as well as I thought I would and bombed some answers because I couldn't think clearly. I just felt like it went really bad. The thing is, I really want this position and am willing to work really hard to make it work. How can I relay this to the people doing the hiring without sounding too desperate or needy? I was told the recruiter would contact me in 2 - 3 days after the phone interview but it's been 8 days and I still haven't heard anything. I sent him an email on Monday asking him to contact me whenever he has a chance but I still haven't heard anything from him.
My question is, what do you guys think my course of action here should be? Should I try contacting him again? What should I say? Should I wait to see if he says they're not interested or something and then try to see if I can acknowledge it didn't go as I had planned and try to get a second interview to explain myself? I really don't know what to do here...do you guys think I really even still have a chance at this position?
Feel free to ask me any questions you think you'd need to know to help me come up with a solution here and as always, thanks in advance for any advice.
