Probably not a deal but 9to5Mac just reported that AT&T will start unlocking iPhone in good standing. Here is the statement on 9to5Mac [9to5mac.com]

“Beginning Sunday, April 8, we will offer qualifying customers the ability to unlock their AT&T iPhones. The only requirements are that a customer’s account must be in good standing, their device cannot be associated with a current and active term commitment on an AT&T customer account, and they need to have fulfilled their contract term, upgraded under one of our upgrade policies or paid an early termination fee.”

Apparently it's due to the many complaints that Tim Cook's office received from AT&T customers. I would like to think that the SD community has a lot to do with that.

new process you have to go to this website for unlock

https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/client/en_US/

According to AT&T, 4/28 was the last day that they will unlock iphones for people without AT&T service. A memo was sent to all reps. If you have a case that was opened before 4/28, you are still good to go and should get your unlock.

For those eligible to unlock the process is immediate- no more case numbers. ATT can input the IMEI and unlock in a few mins- just did this today

those who have att case submitted try this with sam:-
This is how i unlocked video

Check unlock:
iphoneox.coml
http://www.dev.mk/

Chat Link [liveperson.net]

ATT FORUM DISCUSSION [att.com]

[Guide] Unlock Your iPhone Without Losing Your Untethered Jailbreak [unlockboot.com]

If eligible, it is possible to have the iPhone 3G and 3GS unlocked immediately. AT&T will generate a ticket and respond anywhere from 1-7 days for those with an iPhone 4.

Quote from jazbati :
Just called (611 from my AT&T phone). Rep confirmed that my phone was out of contract and there were no outstanding dues. Also asked for my IMEI number. Transferred me to tech support. Tech support sent me an e mail with a pdf attachment which contains the following instructions
The Csr rep tried to tell me if you are an excessive data user, you are not eligible, this is not true for unlimited dat plan customers. (of which I am an excessive data user with unlimited)

To complete the unlock, simply:
1. Open iTunes on your Mac or PC and verify that you have internet connectivity.
2. Connect your iPhone using the dock connector to USB cable that came with your iPhone.
3. Backup and restore your iPhone using iTunes .
For information on backup and restore, please visit http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414.
4. After restoring, your iPhone will be unlocked.

So apparently you only have to restore your phone and itunes realizes that Apple has removed lock from your phone. There are no codes etc to enter like with other phones.
This is my personal 3G phone which I got from AT&T and was under contract for 2 years.
Rep told me you can unlock only 5 phones in 12 months. I had unlocked 2 AT&T go phones from a earlier slickdeal.

Happy unlocking to all.

update from puneet_pal
I just got my iPhone 4 unlocked through AT&T tech support, It was a wait of over 20 mins but worth it after I got the unlock confirmation email from AT&T. After this I followed the steps mentioned in that email (same as above steps) and bingo I got a message that your iPhone is now unlocked. But by doing this all my apps are lost and I cannot seem to recover those from my backup. But it doesnt matter to me but may be few of you may not like this.

update:
Follow my steps and you will get your phone unlocked:
Email icare3@amcustomercare.att-mail.com and let them know you have purchased the phone at full retail price.
State that your contract has ended.
You will get an email saying they need proof and proof must be faxed.
Email back and state that you no longer have proof.
You will get another email stating that you can go back and get the proof
Email back and state that you have tried and the store no longer gives out receipt thats over one year old
You will get a case number
Email back and state you are going out of country in 3 days.
You will get an email stating that your phone has been unlocked.

I have an Iphone 4 with active contract. just FYI.

Good luck.

How to check IMEI
1. *#06#
2. Setting > General > About > IMEI
3. On the Sim Tray.
4. google tinyumbrella
5. through itunes's setting

Questions:
1). What is the from address of unlock instructions email ?
Answer: G10210@ATT.com for me (bluekiwi)
2). If I have unlocked and jailbreak phone, still the steps are same OR do we have to take any additional precautions ?
Answer: http://unlockboot.com/2012/04/unlock-your-iphone-without-losing-your.html (harrychang)

....--- The status check tool may give you incorrect information. My iphone 4s was unlocked last week but the tool still shows it is locked to at&t. I called Apple and confirmed it is indeed unlocked.
In the morning when I checked the status of my phone it said Factory Locked= YES, but now it does not even shows Factory Locked heading anymore and it says Authorized unlock possible. What does this mean? I am still waiting for the e-mail from ATT.

Try looking for the sim unlocks on eBay. There is a sum tray that has a chip between your sum and the iPhone that unlocks your iPhone. Take a look. Gevey is one of the brands but it is pretty expensive. Hope it helps.
i wouldnt mind paying $50 for it, except im on 04.11.08 Firmware, which isnt unlockable. Though something i heard is coming out for it... i hope it comes out before i head overseas...

No, you READ my post again.

iPhone 4S has BOTH GSM and CDMA. All iPhone 4S has both.

You might be thinking of iPhone 4 which has either GSM or CDMA, but not both.

No, you READ my post again.

iPhone 4S has BOTH GSM and CDMA. All iPhone 4S has both.

You might be thinking of iPhone 4 which has either GSM or CDMA, but not both.
CDMA capable iPhone 4S are both cdma and quad band gsm.

GSM iPhone 4S are quad band gsm, but do not have cdma.

Meaning a verizon or Sprint iPhone 4S has cdma and gsm.

A att iPhone 4S has only gsm.

This was your personal phone right? You had it since beginning of the 2 year contract?

I'll have to call and ask them to see if I can unlock the ones I got from my friends and ones from craigslist. They aren't tied to any account but I doubt they are over 1.5 or more years old.

Haven't done it yet. Will do in the morning. I already switched to Android Galaxy S II skyrocket and really don't care much about about the iPhone anymore.

[QUOTE=hellfire127;49110872]This was your personal phone right? You had it since beginning of the 2 year contract?

Yes i had it since the beginning of contract.
