Probably not a deal but 9to5Mac just reported that AT&T will start unlocking iPhone in good standing. Here is the statement on 9to5Mac [9to5mac.com]

"Beginning Sunday, April 8, we will offer qualifying customers the ability to unlock their AT&T iPhones. The only requirements are that a customer's account must be in good standing, their device cannot be associated with a current and active term commitment on an AT&T customer account, and they need to have fulfilled their contract term, upgraded under one of our upgrade policies or paid an early termination fee."

Apparently it's due to the many complaints that Tim Cook's office received from AT&T customers. I would like to think that the SD community has a lot to do with that.

According to AT&T, 4/28 was the last day that they will unlock iphones for people without AT&T service. A memo was sent to all reps. If you have a case that was opened before 4/28, you are still good to go and should get your unlock.

For those eligible to unlock the process is immediate- no more case numbers. ATT can input the IMEI and unlock in a few mins- just did this today

If eligible, it is possible to have the iPhone 3G and 3GS unlocked immediately. AT&T will generate a ticket and respond anywhere from 1-7 days for those with an iPhone 4.

So apparently you only have to restore your phone and itunes realizes that Apple has removed lock from your phone. There are no codes etc to enter like with other phones.
This is my personal 3G phone which I got from AT&T and was under contract for 2 years.
Rep told me you can unlock only 5 phones in 12 months. I had unlocked 2 AT&T go phones from a earlier slickdeal.

I just got my iPhone 4 unlocked through AT&T tech support, It was a wait of over 20 mins but worth it after I got the unlock confirmation email from AT&T. After this I followed the steps mentioned in that email (same as above steps) and bingo I got a message that your iPhone is now unlocked. But by doing this all my apps are lost and I cannot seem to recover those from my backup. But it doesnt matter to me but may be few of you may not like this.

update:
Follow my steps and you will get your phone unlocked:
Email icare3@amcustomercare.att-mail.com and let them know you have purchased the phone at full retail price.
State that your contract has ended.
You will get an email saying they need proof and proof must be faxed.
Email back and state that you no longer have proof.
You will get another email stating that you can go back and get the proof
Email back and state that you have tried and the store no longer gives out receipt thats over one year old
You will get a case number
Email back and state you are going out of country in 3 days.
You will get an email stating that your phone has been unlocked.

I have an Iphone 4 with active contract. just FYI.

05/28/2012 Live Chat support, case closed and phone unlocked on 06/01/2012. Notified by email.

....--- The status check tool may give you incorrect information. My iphone 4s was unlocked last week but the tool still shows it is locked to at&t. I called Apple and confirmed it is indeed unlocked.
In the morning when I checked the status of my phone it said Factory Locked= YES, but now it does not even shows Factory Locked heading anymore and it says Authorized unlock possible. What does this mean? I am still waiting for the e-mail from ATT.

Just got my email:

We are unable to complete your request at this time due to the following reason:
- No valid current or former mobile/account number associated with request. "

I have 2 cases no. with the same iphone, they don't include the case no. with the email. I don't know the other one get through or not ? But very low hope Frown
Since April 14 and 15 when the 2 cases got number. Too long, may I try to borrow friend's ATT's account ?

1. happened to unlock 9 4S, not any other models
2. got the same rep a few fridays ago

Same thing here. I only have 1 case number. Got unlocked email 3 days ago. Backup/Restore didn't give me unlocked message. Contact ATT and they sent another email confirmed that it's unlocked, just need to backup/restore. Then 1 day after, got the same email you got. "no valid account associated with request".

anyone got problem with H20 activation/porting using callingmart pin? I bought H20 universal sim kit at bestbuy and $60 monthly refill pin from callingmart. Upon transferring fill out, they said Invalid Airtime Pin. I wonder if I need to buy a "fresh new pin" from bestbuy to get it to work just because callingmart is the "refill pin" instead?

Interesting. I called into try and unlock my phone today. Went through the whole process no problem and got a case number (since they didn't give me one last time). I just received this email from AT&T:

Dear Customer:

Thank you for your recent inquiry regarding your AT&T service. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. The issue has been resolved.

Should you have any further needs regarding this issue, please do not hesitate to call us at 1 800 331-0500 and reference the tracking number shown above.

it could go either way. use this [imei.info] website to check.

look at the SIM locked: line, you want it to say no.

Got the same email... I am a former customer which I provided my old phone and SSN.

Previously I got unlocked email, actually multiple emails. Now I got this, WTF?

From my experience. I got the same mail as you too. That's the first one they send me and then I got the rejection mail after. But my phone is already unlock. Lets hope your turn out well. Keep your fingers cross....
