That's actually part of the design so if pressure is applied to the back of the iPad in the closed position it won't allow it to flex. If it wasn't there all the support would just be on the corners. I saw what you mentioned about the residue but a quick swipe with rubbing alcohol and a qtip stopped it from leaving any mark

Beware, the iPad 2 ZaggFolio's auto-wake/sleep function does NOT work with the new iPad. I've read some reviews online that Zagg was shipping out iPad 2 folios and dubbed it as compatible with the new iPad (until they realized the auto-wake/sleep function did not work.. not sure if that is 100% true though). So, if you're planning on purchasing that.. make sure you get the specified folio for your iPad

The mark left on the protective screen by is flawed design case is from the metal spine next to the gasket. The problem is the gasket should cover the metal spine completely but it does not. The gasket gets over compressed and the metal spine now press right onto the screen. Just by pressing the ipad firmly into the case will cause this. I even call Zagg's customer service to see if there is any quick fix because I love the case. They pretty much told me there is nothing they can due to fix this except don't use the screen protector if I don't like seeing the line on the screen. They need to use a thicker gasket or cover the whole spine where the ipad hinged.

This issue will vary from different type of screen protectors. I use the ArmorSuit MilitaryShield which is very highly rated. Any of the spray on or stretchable screen protector will leave a noticeable indented mark.
