By the way, your link to Lowes shows a mower WITH large rear wheels. Not the same as your Amazon link.

Honda engines are reliable and the mowers are well rated but having used my parents' I find it slightly underpowered and lacking features. My neighbors' $700 Honda is incredible though. This Husqvarna uses the same Honda 160cc engine as the ~$400 Honda, which makes me think it will be slightly underpowered when the grass is taller and moist. I can't say as the blade used is very important. My parents and my mowers are probabl 4-5 years old by now, so it may not be representative of what's available on the market today.

One big option I wouldn't overlook on a mower is the ability to make it go at your pace, which my Toro has and I believe the $700 Honda has as well, but once you start approaching the $1k price, you might as well start looking at 30" deck mowers. That's something I'm looking into as I hate cutting grass, but don't want the added cost/maintenance of a tractor.

For everyone out there who is worried about power. The 160cc (6.9 lb-ft torque) engine is equal in power to the Briggs 700 series engines (by spec.). Though I can't speak for the neighbor in this example, all the Honda mowers sold near me have the 190cc engine on them which ups the torque to 8.3 lb-ft.

I bought one yesterday, variable speed, mulching, hose attachment were what sold me. It has all the bells and whistles you would want on a push power. It worked as advertised yesterday.


As for the large rear wheels, if you have tight corners just tilt the mower back and pivot it around...anything with 4 wheels designed to stay straight are going to be a pain in the ass to maneuver...thus why you have to pivot

Anywho, I'm comparing mowers a few years old, it's possible there have been subtle changes which improve efficiency in other means (deck design, blade type, etc). Just wanted to give a little feedback. The other huge thing I like about the Toro is the Personal Pace system. Obviously if I could get the $700 190cc Honda with the "Smart Drive" (http://powerequipment.honda.com/l.../hrx217vka) for anywhere close to the price of Toro, I'd rather buy a Honda - I'm partial to the brand, but I wasn't willing to pay twice as much and the Toro has given me absolutely no problems.
