Sockets or wrenches? 12 pt wrenches have always worked fine for me and and are easier in tight spaces. Ratcheting 12 pt box wrenches are even better. I guess it depends on how often you break down the same engine or assembly.

Sockets. The only thing "easier" about them is it doesn't take as many tries to get the socket onto the bolt head. I just turn the socket a click or two and it works fine. No big deal at all. I think it's a small price to pay to avoid rounding bolt heads.

To be fair, they do make 12-point and 6-point wrenches. Can't say I've ever rounded a nut or bolt off by using a 12-point, though. That usually happens when the wrong size is used (a 9/16 instead of a 13mm, etc), or the nut or bolt is a low grade and pretty soft. 12-point is invaluable in tight spaces where a 6-point, even with short-arc ratchet, just won't work.

True, I might buy some of the six point wrench sets to add to my tool box. However, I have relied on the 12 pt wrenches so long, I'll keep them around. Smilie

Yeah, reading comprehension owns me. For some reason I read 12-pt and just assumed sockets.

I was looking for a 32mm 6-pt 3/4" socket over the weekend for an axle nut but could only find 12-pt. It was frustrating.
