Good deal, but if you have anything wrong with your car it will fail. Windshield cracks, head or tail light lens damage, wiper blades, CEL, etc.

Inspection only shops key in on stuff they can fix quickly at their shops

I agree. 2 ounces of brake fluid will cost you $15. And if they fail you, you still have to pay for the inspection. Then you get the problem fixed, you can go back there and get a reinspection for free if you return within a certain period of time. (Something like 15 days) Because people dont want to bother going someplace else to get things fixed, they let the shop do it (for a "nominal" fee, of course)

Cost of inspection is regulated by the state/county. 55% off is illegal.

Also keep in mind we (Texas) do not pay state income tax.

Really? Show me the statute or reg. I could be wrong but the admin code seems pretty clear on this.

Texas sets maximum charges, but I am not aware of any regulation preventing discounts.

See 37 TX ADC 23.73. [tx.us]

Especially subsection (b)(4)...

"The fee, or any portion of the fee, may be waived, or payment deferred, provided advance payment for certificates issued has been made to the department."

You've got me there... The company providing the service must've paid the discount they are offering. Sounds like bad business to me.
