NATIONAL TRAIN DAY May 12th FREE (NYC, PHL, LA, Chi, Tampa, New Orleans, more

National Train Day is sponsored by Amtrak (I believe) to foster public interest in trains. Events vary throughout the nation. While the event itself is free, nothing other than entrance to the rail station and displays are involved. For example. in Portland, Oregon a classic steam engine is brought in which folks can look at. Event tends to draw families and children. The Portland event also has about 25 booths where folks interested in trains set up information booths. The Portland event also tends to set up a model railroad (usually HO or O gauge) for the kids to watch. Sort of a festive atmosphere. This actually is a "thumbs up" event for families, couples on a date (somewhat similar to a trip to the zoo) & train buffs.
