There are big differences in different vendors.

HP tends to be the least expensive and it shows in their reliability reports.
That is not the only report, but the only one i have bookmarked.

HP is always at the bottom.

Spending a little more on the build to increase HDD shock resistance, stronger hinges, ensuring the system is a little more waterproof for the occassional rainshower or other light amount of water on the system, etc.. etc... can all lead to a system that withstands the test of time.

While it's true that all vendors will have failures and all vendors will have systems that last for years, it is not true that its purely the luck of the draw and all are constructed the same.

That report does not mean I will not by an HP, but I will factor the reliability report into what I'm willing to pay as well as the weight I apply to getting an extended warranty.

This has everything I've been looking for! 1080P resolution, 2nd gen i7, discrete graphics, blu-ray player, 9 cell battery, 15 inch size for mobility.... BUT THE TAX!!!! I DON"T WANT THE TAX!!! Also it being an HP brand doesn't help either :'(

I only managed to get a cpu build for $700 with intel core i5 - 2500k sandy bridge 3.3ghz (3.7ghz turbo boost lga 1155 9w quad core desktop processor intel hd graphics 3000 with ASUS ENGTX560 DCII OC/2DI/1GD5 GeForce GTX 560 (Fermi) 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card, ENGTX560 DCII OC/2DI/1GD5 but i7 cost too much

You won't see any difference in your gameplay between a 2500k and an i7. Go with the 2500k or wait for ivybridge for the 5-10% cpu performance increase.

Sure they did. an i5 with the same specs as the op's including 1080p for $719 would not last long.
