Landing the Job When You Do Not Necessarily Meet the Experience

very rarely do candidates have all the requirements someone is looking for, just dont lie and say you have some experience you dont have. Sounds like a odd combination of skills probably why they have not filled the position.

Well if you have a friend on the inside your foot is as good as in the door (hopefully). That is the hardest part in most situations.

Tell him to put in a good word for you. "roninmedia is awesome! he may not have the formal experience you are looking for, but he has worked with <examples>, and will bust his tail. I think you should meet him and see if he can work for this position you have available"

Then get a few letters of recommendation lined up. Professors, internships, etc. Anyone whose title or role would impress the employer. I had the President of my first company write me a glowing letter of recommendation, and it was gold at interview time. I would go with digital format (maybe someone will disagree), and near the end of the interview ask for the interviewers email address so you can forward the letters to them. It also gives you an opening to thank them for their time and tell them how excited you are about the position.

For the interview itself look up the body language things to avoid. Make sure you dont come off as nervous. Be confident but not cocky, and above all be honest. Oh and try to get your guy on the inside to get as much info about the role as possible. If there are parts of the job you are not strong in you can say "yeah I am not very strong in that, but I was reading up on it the other day, and it is very interesting and something I would like to work with"

If you can do some of the work try it. You never know where life/work life will take you. At a minimum you will find out if this job/field is not for you.

From what I heard volunteering in a hospital really can set you apart from the pack.

I'm in the health field.

unless you possess the equiv. skills/knowledge expected of somebody with 2+ yrs of exp. in a hospital pharmacy, your resume is going immediately in the trash.

go work in a hospital pharmacy for at least 24 mths. then apply for the job you really want.
