Plant for my office?
Hi guys, the desk at my work is really plain and I wanted a slight change in things. I have read a very little bit about some advantages of plants (looking at green stuff every so often helps relieve your eyes, better air quality). Some possible disadvantages are allergies/pollen. Besides that, I really don't know anything about plants, so I was hoping someone could point me to a starting spot.I want something: - cheap - small - simple - easy to maintain - won't cause any allergy problems I sit about 7-8 feet away from a window. I was planning to either put the plant by the window, or on my desk (depending on how much sunlight it needs). It would be great if someone can point me to an all-in-one plant/kit. Again, I don't know how this works. If I get something, would it come with the soil, seed, and pot all ready to go? Or would I need to find a pot, find the soil, and find the seed separately myself? I'd do research on this, but it would take me more time than I want, so I'm really looking for something super simple and hope someone can help me out here.

Pothos are super easy to grow. The don't flower, so there won't be any pollen issues. I don't know of any allergy issues with it. It needs minimal light, but can take a lot of light as well. Water every week. It does great in a self-watering pot. I thoroughly drench mine about every two weeks and don't have to think about it the rest of the time.
You can buy prepotted plants lots of places: Walmart, Target, Home Depot, Lowes, RiteAid, etc. Springtime usually brings a small garden section to lots of stores. Or you could go to a plant nursery and ask for the indoor plant section. Nurseries generally have employees with more knowledge than other stores regarding plants. |

The easiest thing to get would be a Peace Lilly, you've probably seen them in the lobbies of buildings before as they are used frequently because they tolerate low light levels. They come in all sizes, they help to clean the air, they do well in low light levels so you could have it on your desk and they're hard to kill. Spend the extra money and buy one that is already planted in a real clay pot so you don't have to mess with buying soil and potting it.
http://www.gardeningknowhow.com/p...plants.htm Second choice would be a Crown of Thorns. Being this close to Easter, you might find some still at the grocery stores. They're interesting looking and if they're happy, they'll bloom in the spring with small pink or white flowers. There's virtually no pollen on the tiny flowers so no worries about allergies. Just be careful of the thorns when moving the plant. http://www.wanapluk.com/crown-of-thorns-plant/ Happiness and depression are both feelings, just like joy and anger. It's not feelings that give us problems. It's what we do with them that makes the difference.

Thanks everyone! I am not dead yet! I am very bad a responding to my own threads, but I do read every post and am using the information to make my pick.
Few things: - I like the sound of a plant helping clean the air. But I feel like I would need a large plant to do anything significant. I was looking for a really small plant, something at most the size of a desk lamp.. if such a plant exists haha - I am currently looking at this: http://www.amazon.com/Golden-Devi...914&sr=1-1 but I am afraid of it being too large. Will do more research - I am most likely going to go to Home Depot and asking a worker there for a recommendation. Sometime this month hopefully
