How long should I have numbness after wisdom tooth extraction? I had wisdom tooth extraction. It has been 1 month since, and I still have numbness in my lower lip area. It appears I have some nerve damage. The questions are how long should I expect this feeling to last? And Should I contact another dentist or oral surgeon like miami wisdom tooth extraction? Is this permanent? |

Who took out the Wisdom Tooth? An Oral Surgeon or a Dentist? That would make a big difference in answering your question. Normally an Oral Surgeon removes Wisdom Teeth, not a Dentist, due to the problem of impacted roots and other problems they are able to see on x-rays, and other problems that can come up during extraction.

You probably should talk to the person that took out the tooth to find out how long it might last, if it's permanent etc
My son just had his wisdom teeth out and there was a whole long list of things that 'could go wrong' that I read and signed off on (one of them is numbness). Did they go over the risks with you? |

Why don't you just contact the person who did your surgery? That would be the logical thing to do..

Just thinking about this logically, I would say anything more than 24-48 hours is not normal. I did a bit of research online and found that usually the effect will last one HOUR, so if I were you I could call the office where you had the surgery and schedule a follow up.
Just do a google search and you will find stuff like this: http://www.webmd.com/oral-health/...extraction |

They often take them out when its not needed, but do it for the money. Saw this in a dental mag in a dentists office. Paresthesia.
