help me find a deal on a new home sound system

I just sold my sound system. I had the Bose standing speakers 701's a center and 2 rear speakers for my home theatre entertainment. I never really like them and always thought they were over priced and I just paid for the name.


Can anyway can anyone recommend something or find me a deal? I have an extra $500 I got from my old system to go towards it. Not sure what the total price will be or even what i should spend. I also want to hook my computer up to it. I need to get a complete overhaul and going to get rid of my receiver to. If you can not recommend something maybe you can recommend a different forum on where to home sound speakers help. What do you have and what do you think of it. I want to be able to play movies/games from my computer from it and my TV. I also want to be able to play music but I don't do it as often as the other two.

The best place on the internet for information regarding speakers (actually anything to do with audio or video) is http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/. You may want to do some research over there.

AVSForum is great, lots of info to wade through there and lots of opinions...
Looks like you have 2 needs; 1 for a AV received and another for 5.1 speakers.
$500 is not going to get both necessarily...
You can find opinions on every brand as bad or good... except Bose, everyone hates them!
Look at Electronics Expo - notice they have openbox/returns with warranty.
I was able to get a great Denon 7.1 receiver on an open box special for less than half price and it was essentially new - could not tell that it had ever been used.
For speakers, looks at the Energy take 5 specials that show up here - think NewEgg
Also, I like Pinnacle speakers and you can get steals from Dell of all places. They have a package with a soundbar, subwolf and LR channels which was perfect for my needs.

unfortunately there no fry's are anywhere near me. Also my budget is not $500 that is what i got for my old ones. I was think of spending up to 2k, I also need an amp right?

You do not "need" an amp.

Yea but i think want one.It will be the last thing i get though.

Anyway Best buy was able to pretty much price match for me 240 instead of 224 on that Denon 7-1 receiver now i just need everything else

I didn't mean it in a stern way, if that's how it came across. It sounded like you were asking if you needed one and I was simply saying you didn't need one.
