Need a new 5.1 sound system

I think I need to upgrade my sound system in my bedroom, but I really don't know too much about sound.

I'm kind of picky about what speakers sound like, even though I don't know much about it. I've used a Creative SBS 450 with my laptop for the last 9 years or so, and the sound has been incredible (probably one of the best purchases I've ever made). It's supposedly not that powerful, but I can't imagine what more I could want. Especially when I hear tinny sound out of others' speakers.

I've generally used it as a 2.1 system, but I think I want to upgrade to 5.1, because the room I have now is fairly large at 17'x12' and I just got a projector. Anyway, I think I want to run HDMI from the projector to the receiver and then be able to connect my laptop and a PS3 into the receiver as well.

So, ideally, I would like to spend $200, hopefully less, and still have deep, full sound that I get out of the SBS 450 (has anyone used it and heard what a great sounding set of speakers they are?) or better. Anyway, I'm open to suggestions on this, and appreciate the help.

Thanks for the link. How do these compare with the Energy Take Classic RC Micro on the front page? I realize $45 more and no subwoofer -- is the sound that much better?

Big question I think is what's a good deal on a receiver that would fit my needs? I was almost dumb yesterday and was looking at an older used HDMI 1.3 receiver. I think I really need to get something new in this area, that has 1080p passthrough with at least two HDMI inputs.

id spend more $ on speakers if I was you. I am also looking for a 5.1 surround system and planning on spending up to a grand on them.
