Need a new 5.1 sound system
I think I need to upgrade my sound system in my bedroom, but I really don't know too much about sound. I'm kind of picky about what speakers sound like, even though I don't know much about it. I've used a Creative SBS 450 with my laptop for the last 9 years or so, and the sound has been incredible (probably one of the best purchases I've ever made). It's supposedly not that powerful, but I can't imagine what more I could want. Especially when I hear tinny sound out of others' speakers. I've generally used it as a 2.1 system, but I think I want to upgrade to 5.1, because the room I have now is fairly large at 17'x12' and I just got a projector. Anyway, I think I want to run HDMI from the projector to the receiver and then be able to connect my laptop and a PS3 into the receiver as well. So, ideally, I would like to spend $200, hopefully less, and still have deep, full sound that I get out of the SBS 450 (has anyone used it and heard what a great sounding set of speakers they are?) or better. Anyway, I'm open to suggestions on this, and appreciate the help. |

Thanks for the link. How do these compare with the Energy Take Classic RC Micro on the front page? I realize $45 more and no subwoofer -- is the sound that much better?
Big question I think is what's a good deal on a receiver that would fit my needs? I was almost dumb yesterday and was looking at an older used HDMI 1.3 receiver. I think I really need to get something new in this area, that has 1080p passthrough with at least two HDMI inputs. Any help is appreciated. |

id spend more $ on speakers if I was you. I am also looking for a 5.1 surround system and planning on spending up to a grand on them.

I understand that there's some people that need really expensive sound, but I'm looking for something more budget.
Something like this would fit my needs, and I could swing the price: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Pro...882005065R. Is it any good? Will I just be throwing away money if I don't get a decent receiver and speakers combination if I want to sell them off later? What's a better solution in this price range? |
