trashy cpu .. yes its rock solid other than weak cpu .. thinkpad e520 had sandy bridge for less that price

This is the 3rd best thinkpad series laptop. Nothing much to excite about.
I wish it was T or W series then I could have pull trigger on 5 of them. However this is really a good power pack if you are really looking for awesome decent laptop. |

First gen i5-520 (plenty fast), L series (better built than Edge), New w/ 3 year warranty. You can't beat that.

If you don't care about the really weak graphics in Gen1 i5, its a decent deal.
Very Solid Build on this laptop and 3yr warranty. |

No no no, why would you even think about buying an overpriced first gen i5 when the third generation is less than a month away?!? I know Lenovo has superior build quality but this is 2 yr old tech, and that is much too old to be considered a deal at $500. I bought my first Nehalem/Arrandale laptop January 2010, it was the $500 steal gateway from bestbuy if anyone else remembers that deal. Yes this laptop is superior to that one in build, but 2 years later, with nearly the same components(except mine has blu-rayand the i5-430m), there is no way I would consider $500 a deal, to me, it seems like retail pricing.
My 2 cents, wait a month, and blow a couple extra hundred on an ivybridge or even a trinity laptop that has your build quality and needs met. the extra $100-200 will be well returned in performance and gpu capability. Also for me, no more crappy 1366x768 resolutions on 15" laptops anymore, its got to be at least 1600x900+ |

Assuming a persons limit is $500, this still isn't a good deal IMHOP. Scratch & Dents and new ones pop up with current gen quad core I-5's for $500 or less.

I used to use DELL Lattitude with the same processor in my office. Besides being I5 processor it is not much faster then a good Core 2. Also the HD is 320GB SATA (5400rpm). Expect the battery life less then 3 hours. The build is OK (on par with T and W). Not sure if it has the docking connector and it looks (looking at the picture) that it has a fingerprint reader.
In short: if I'm looking for a laptop, I'd pass this one. |
