Is it worth it to return my i52500k ($179) and bite on this for extra 20 buck ? Hyperthreading essentially worths $20 extra ... I dont do crazy video editing. Building the comp solely for diable 3. Any input ?

Yes. I would return and pay the extra $20 difference. I know you say that you are only using it for Diablo 3, but you don't know what you are going to need a year or two from now.

honestly performancewise, the difference between the two chips are absolutely negligible, and though not really proven, its said that i5 in general OC's better. I currently run i5 OC'd and almost always beat everyone in my game loading speeds

For 20 bucks, yes. But realistically, you'll never notice the difference. Most benchmarks place the i7 faster only in video compression and transcoding. It's a pretty specific benchmark that a lot of people don't care about or need.

i5 2500k overclocks easily over 4ghz, even on a stock intel cooler. And in most other tests, like gaming, it matches or beats an i7 (overclocked, which you WILL do with a 2500k ;P)
