great deal, same as before... http://slickdeals.net/f/4053632-D...e-22-AR-FS
DD-WRT Info Page 1 http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index....us_RT-N13U Page 2 http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index....%2C_page_2 Downloads (options... pick one for Asus RT-N13UB1) ftp://www.dd-wrt.com/others/eko/B...eSP2/2011/ (will have to cut slickdeals ref out to get it there) Put DDWRT on it. To get 300 Mbps speeds I had to switch the wireless encryption to WPA2 with aes, and make the channel width 40 instead of 20. Must also use ch 1 (lower) 6 (upper or lower) or 11 (upper) for full speed "Some report r16994 of 05/08/11 is most stable, so preferred." but did not work at full speed for me and had a ton of issues so switched to newest release and all was working well ftp://www.dd-wrt.com/others/eko/B...-RTN13UB1/ (will have to cut slickdeals ref out to get it there) ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Mod for external high gain antennas OEM is 2 x internal Antenna Gain in 3 dBi You will need cables (set of 2 here for $2.49) http://www.ebay.com/itm/2-Mini-PC...3f14dfdaa7 as well as 2 antennas, these are cheap... http://www.ebay.com/itm/Omni-Wire...3f03ec9076 total cost is $6.99. You may want to measure cable length needed BEFORE you buy. Just given for an idea now, I have not done this mod where to connect found with internal photo here http://apps.fcc.gov/oetcf/eas/rep...-RTN13U%27 (second picture, off to the right, look for 2 ports that will fit cable linked above... (very small port) one off to right and above large metal plate, and the other one is off to the right as well, about 2/3 down beside the large metal plate Also, seen in last picture middle/bottom of picture labeled as J5 beside mac address pad ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Rebate Info see op ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Tut. on how to use ssh and or VPN not ssh tut. but a VPN one http://www.howtogeek.com/51772/ho...rt-router/ ssh is allowed but the VPN is blocked so I had to go SSH route http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pND0ovwx7FY (part 1) START to watch at 3:30 just talking before that http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rk...ature=plcp (part 2) ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Tut. on how to add an FTP server Steps (after you flash to newest build) (1) format drive you want to use to ex3 (use gParted) the whole drive is fine, you do not need all the dif. partitions (2) select services, the usb, and enable all but printer and set to /mnt (3) In the next tab over (nas) enable port 21 /mnt then select disable & disable (4) turn off router (pull the plug) (5) put drive in router (6) plug back in / reboot router go to filezilla, login and you should be good to go :-) the user/password is the same as your router Optional (if you want to access via internet) add (7) Administation, commands... iptables -t nat -I PREROUTING -p tcp -d $(nvram get wan_ipaddr) --dport 21 -j DNAT --to 192.168.1.1:21 iptables -I INPUT -p tcp -d 192.168.1.1 --dport 21 -j logaccept save firewall reboot, and all is good Newest Flash now up. Be advised, this has auto mount USB added but VPN and SSH are not working Code:

Just yesterday I was trying to use one as a repeater and it was horrible. Wont give IP address to a wired device and even if it did it wasnt able to resolve DNS and so on. Also the USB port wont accept ntfs drive and the downloading software is a joke. This product was just dissapointing.
Anyone using DD-WRT can care to comment on their experience ? |

my experience with this router was not the best.... signal dropped out probably once or twice a day, and yes, i tried dd-wrt and the same thing still happened.
great features for the price, but i cannot deal with dropouts also, started failing big time after less than 1 year. i dont know if it was an overheating issue or something, but if i was running it, then unplugged it, i could not plug it back in again without waiting for 30minute to 1 hour. |

I got in on this deal last time. Running DD-WRT and all seems fine. Boosted the power a little to extend the range and have had no overheating issues or lockups of any kind. I'm planning to do an external antenna mod as well with the exact items listed in the wiki (I have the pigtails, but I'm waiting on the antennas). One thing I would warn about specific to the external antenna mod is this unit has a molded plastic base forcing it to stand vertically. This may cause problems with the antenna spacing and orientation, which does matter. If I can't work out good spacing in the vertical orientation, I'm planning to dremel the base off and lay the unit horizontal.
In for 1 more (with no intention of modding) for my mother-in-law's network. Last edited by Fundin; 04-13-2012 at 07:03 AM.. |

Anyone planning to buy from Mwave should always be using a virtual credit card and/or Paypal. Any credit card I've ever used with them has been compromised. They are the only common denominator amongst my purchases.

I haven't used DD-WRT, but I have set this up on multiple routers. 1) Make sure to set the router to "wireless client" or "infrastructure station" mode. 2) If their is a setting for it, make sure you have "static routing" set. 3) Also, make sure to turn DHCP off. 4) Set the SSID and password to match that of your wireless network. Once you do all of the above, you will no longer be able to access your router. To do so, you will need to "reset" the router to its default settings. EDIT: Some routers (netgear) will take care of #1, #2 & #3 by changing your DHCP setting to "DHCP Client". EDIT2: After looking at the demo, there doesn't seem to be a "clean" way to set up wireless client. In fact, it seems it only supports this in "repeater" mode, which restricts a lot of options, and results in a drastic performance hit, because the device is acting as a repeater AND wireless client. DD-WRT may be the only option for a viable wireless client mode. Here is the demo I was using: http://service.asus.com/demoui/RT....1/as.html Last edited by UnstableChimp; 04-13-2012 at 08:16 AM.. |

I got the B1 version recently (it supports 3G wireless dongle) and installed it in Chennai(India) with 3G broadband. It worked flawlessly.
The set up was a little confusing first since there were no clear instructions - but managed after a couple of tries.. Do not go to SD...

For what it's worth this appears to be the B1 revision which has 64MB of RAM and a 8MB flash, making it suitable for the standard version of DD-WRT. I'm in for one, and attempt to share a USB drive across the internet with it. Also I think I read somewhere that it doesn't like NTFS formatted drives but will work with FAT/FAT32.
