I have the Polk 70s w/ an Emotiva 12 inch sub in my bedroom music only set up paired w/ an Emotiva 12 inch sub run off an HK 3490 receiver.
Think I would benefit much from the Defs? I like a bit sharper sound, especially after break in. |

Allowable budget aside, I'd say these DTs compare well to the M70s, but to my ears are not as good. If by "sharper" you mean "brighter", then you may prefer these DefTechs, but you will lose a significant amount of mid-range and overall warmth as a result. I love my DefTechs, but for a home theater setup the M70s are definitely superior. For a music only setup in a bedroom, it'd be a push and up to personal taste. Which is to say, you might benefit from these given your stated preferences if you only plan to listen to music on them. |

I just picked a pair of these bad boys during the last "GRANDSLAM" coupon deal. They are definitely the real deal. In the last thread there was a good deal of argument regarding the advertised 25Hz bottom end. While that might be a bit of an embelishment, the box design created by Definitive provides very tight and very deep bass.
I replaced a pair of lower end Wharfdales with the BP6B and have been very impressed with the clarity. Some of the highlights I have noticed have been the bipolar design. I have the the speakers about a foot and half from the wall and the sound is excellent. Having both drivers firing out of a decent sized encloser creates wonderfully controlled bass, and the tweeters on the low-end BP6B are used all the way to the top of the line BP speakers that Definitive offers. The clarity, soundstage, and imaging of these speakers is unmatched by the Wharfdales. I am running them through a Pioneer VSX-1021-K that has been up for sale many times on SD. This receiver seems to match nicely as some users have complained about matching issues with their amps/receiver causing the overall sound to be a tad bright. The VSX-1021-K comes with Pioneer's answer to Audysee called MCACC. After running MCACC, the receiver set the crossover on my standalone subwoofer down to 80Hz. Obviously these speakers are capable of hitting low frequencies and a standalone sub might not be necessary for those on a budget. Anyway, electronics expo is an authorized reseller of Definitive Technology, and once shipped, I received the speakers in two days. Great deal, enjoy. |
