They aren't going to sell anything at a stupid low price, they'll just ship it off to one of their other stores

There is a local hardware store I have nearby that marks up stuff ridiculously high. But I go there over Home Depot. Why? Because I want to support them and they are ALWAYS friendly when I go in there, helping me find what I need quickly, and not trying to up-sell me shit or ignore me. Customer service goes with your product. Provide me with the customer service you think I deserve, and I will hand you back money in exchange for it. Don't expect me to pay ridiculous prices if you can't back up your service with it. |

just being slick

At first I was thinking yes, but product demand for items at home improvement store vs. an electronics store may be a factor they couldn't. Lowes offers great prices, 10% coupons on all pricing, whether its regular, sale or clearance, etc. AND, typically, Lowes customer service is just a different class IMO. Not all Lowes has great service, but the one I go too, they know me and always take care of me. Just wish I knew what drives BB to stay in the model they are in now, which has been failing them. Best Buy is just restructuring.
They are closing 50 stores, some in Europe (epic fail didnt do research) They are opening 100 smaller stores and 5 more in China and FYI theres about 1500 stores total, losing 50 aint much and China's 5 star stores only generate 4 billion out of the total 50~ billion they generate a year. |
|
This might come to a surprise to you but funny fact, Best Buy actually LOSES money for every laptop sold below i think it was 500. if there were no attachments to the transaction like services and accessories. im guessing they are subsidized. Best Buy makes most of their profit from upselling and cross selling from the core product. EDIT I think the products at cowboom are usually from Trade Ins and stuff from the Buy Back program when customers sell their products back to us. 20%-50% of purchase price. |

After ALL this discussion I see i dont understand one thing, ALL everyone complains about BestBuy is how marked up their items are yada yada yada. In the end they are a COMPANY, they need to make profit. They have Managers, TONS of employees worldwide so they need to make profit SOMEHOW. OF corse Amazon is going to be cheaper because they might make 3 dollars on an HDMI cable that Bestbuy would make 25 or 30 on, but Amazon doesnt need as many employees and BestBuy does. If I can go into the store, play with the product, get some info on it from a HUMAN, Im willing to pay tax IN STORE< take it home with me THAT night and support that company

Best Buy did have some good deals on Black Friday, that were even available after the initial rush.
Amazon had CRAP with their lightning deals. They had a 42 inch TV that lasted 1 second. I was so disappointed that I waited for those deals. Also, recently, most of Amazon's deals were just a match of another retailers price |
|
Also, realistically, how many people actually claim the sales taxes on purchases through Amazon. |

Don't know. Don't care. BB ran several family businesses out of Richfield to build their corporate headquarters. Since they didn't care then. why should I care now? I also remember several mom and pop shops that sold electronics in the area. BB didn't care about them either. No one cried for the typewriter manufactures when the computer came out. No one cried for the buggy manufacturers when the car came out. I won't cry for best buy if they where unable to evolve and compete with the etailers. If you go back and re-read what I said. I did say most do NOT pay the tax they are suppose to on amazon orders. I am all for supporting the local business when it makes sense. Hell I am a small local business! However, when best buy has awful service, pushy sales people and 20-30% higher prices whats the point of spending my money there? BTW I use to own a small retail store that was forced out of business by e-tailers. While my service was top notch the overhead killed me. Now I am in a field with no BM over head and it can not be out sourced as it's in home/on site work. Evolve or go extinct. |

Getting around a seal is pretty easy, BBY has to open it to ensure the product is in there, unfortunately once they do that it isn't new. Do you have any idea how easy it is to take a thin razor to tape and then press to overlap it, or just getting a new piece of packing tape and cutting it out with a crafting supply set. This is how you hear about the rocks in Ipad cases and stuff on Consumerist. It's a catch 22 for them. Furthermore, they have to match serial numbers. Three times I've seen people try to pull that stunt at Walmart with cell phones. Returning a brand new item is just buyers remorse in my book and to most people. Work retail for a week, you'd be surprised at the BS that comes through. |

The transaction wasn't finished and the CSR stalled until the LP guy showed up. Yeah, the guy didn't have an answer for that.
