It's a good deal, but I'm still not sure why Costco merchandise is ever posted on SD. Costco 'clearances' things out upon them being returned. There is rarely a nationwide clearance on their merchandise. The shakes you purchased are because someone else bought them and returned them, upon doing so they can no longer be sold as 'new', thus clearanced. That goes for any and every Costco item. In fact, many of the Costco items that are returned, they donate to local non-profits or sell to other resellers at massively discounted prices.

No. Costco marks down items that have been discontinued and thus last ones. Very rarely does any one person return enough product for it to be resold on the sales floor. Unfortunately, even within the same region, merchandise is not the same across all warehouses. So its possible this may be the only place to find this item.

I've never seen clearanced items sold on the sales floor. They're always on pallets in one of three places:

1) Electronics
2) Toward floral
3) By the registers

I'm in Costco a whole lot and ours has never had clearanced items in a shelf location.

(Also - I posted what I posted because that is exactly what the guy at my local Costco told me who is in charge of that task)

This is a pretty damn slick deal.... If only Costco was near by Frown

8.5 oz sounds is probably only 20-25g of protein, maybe less.

But for 20 dollars for 18, still a damn good deal.

That is where your Costco puts them. I've seen clearance items just about everywhere possible.

First of all I did not use the word clearance. I also did not say anything about a clearance section (sometimes TV's that have been marked down do have a specific display area). I said they mark items down. They stay were they are and they sell at a reduced price until they are gone or there are so few quantity remaining that they can be combined with something else. Also every warehouse is different. Everything is done at the managers discretion.

They had them in their normal location in the pills area along with all the other whey products and had many cases left. If you didn't know, anything sold at Costco ending in a .97 price is equal to a clearance price. While it might go lower the long on the shelf, this is being clearanced from stock for whatever reason (new packaging, expiration dates, etc.). It's still valid as a SD even if you specifically don't find it at that price, hence the YMMV.

I like it. But I think I have enough money to buy it. Ouch!

Items ending in .97 is clearance. Not because of someone returning it, but because the manufacturer wont take back any excess inventory from Costco for credit, so they just need to clear it out to make floor space
