This is a great little computer. But make no mistake, it is not quite a quality HTPC. It runs hot, about 70 degrees C. It only has one RAM slot so only takes 4 G of RAM. And while it squashes the atom, it cannot keep up with a dual tuner in HD.

I built my own HTPC from a desktop mini ITX board that takes regular desktop RAM and supports 8 GB, have it in a cooled case with a DVD drive, and after rebates it cost me about $220 to build.

Still it takes more space. And the little guy is more flexible space wise. Can even mount to the back of a monitor. But at 159, add a hard disc and RAM and you are rising in cost quickly.

I liked the deal mixed with the SSD last time. At $159, this is a so so deal. I think $129 is more appropriate given the cost of adding the drive and RAM (about another $120) and needing an external DVD drive.

These tiny barebones have crappy tiny power supplies that are more likely to fail.
Better consider one with regular sized PSU.

Yes, but given that Foxconn either makes the actual parts, or the chips that go on the parts of nearly 95% of the computer related items sold on this site, it'd be hard to get away from. Still, do what you feel is best. Personally, I don't buy Apple products, but it's got little to do with Foxconn.

I have heard that the range on this model is excellent. I believe it has something to do with the the tears of the underage workers splashing on the circuit boards.
