TurboTax Self Employed HSA WTF?
I am self employed and using TurboTax as I normally do to figure my taxes, but this time I set up and used a Health Savings Account in 2011. TurboTax is NOT reducing my taxes owed and it is really pissing me off.
I received a 1099 from my HSA showing the money I spend from the HSA on medical expenses. I enter that amount on form 8889 and my taxes go UP! Then I check the box stating that I used the amount for qualifying medical and my taxes go back down to where they were before. It is as if the HSA did not do anything, WTF?
