Which could be said of the DS, too (a $8 flash cart isn't really a barrier to casual pirates), but it is WAY more successful. It's all about the marketing and 3rd party support. The PSP failed almost from the start. Vita is not off to a good start (and I own one).

Most kids these days find a way, and DID from what I saw. Plus running pirated games on a DS was way easier than the cracking process for a PSP. The market of pirates was arguably way bigger on DS with smaller, faster to download ROMS and yet the platform still had reasonable retail success, unlike any of the PSP models.

Regardless, with Gamestop already giving away Vita games and cases to goose Vita hardware sales, the platform is not performng well so soon after launch.
