completely lose access to internet when connecting my obi100 device / time warner cable

SDRebel 30,176 3,163 April 15, 2012 at 12:06 PM
Hi everyone.
I've been having a problem where every time I connect my obi100 device for google voice, I lose all internet access( i have a netgear router moca/ethernet from TWC, no additional modem). I never had this problem before with fios, but it has happened every time i try it.
I logged in to my router and saw "access denied" in connectivity state instead of the normal "Operational"...
any idea why? trying google doesn't give me anything related (not with my keywords anyway)
Thanks in advance

well not quite sure what your setup is so you have a combo router/modem that has 4 ports and you plug the obi in and your internet dies can you access the if the unit is just defective?

Assuming you have the same/similar setup as you did with FiOS, and given the ominous "Access Denied" message in your router; perhaps this is a case of TWC blocking competing voice providers on their network?

That's pretty harsh, so I doubt it would be the case; even ComCrapst didn't block voip....but without further information that's all I got. Anybody else have problem with Time Warner and using other VoIP providers?

pretty much. I have a switch connected to the router combo, but pretty sure that is not causing any changes, plus I remember I've tried with the obi connected directly to the router. I haven't tried it anywhere else, but it used to work fine with fios

netgear router cgd24g (coaxial/ethernet) provided by TWC, then switch, then obi. like I just said, I'm almost sure i've tried directly to the router with the same results.

I did last night a hard reset on the obi device and now it's not breaking the interwebz anymore, but now it won't get google voice service even after setting it up Sadwalk
now the status is online-unmanaged...damn..i've tried the setup 3 times and no luck, firmware was already updated

How was the fios setup? Did they have a router\gateway as well?

Its almost like the obi wants to be the router so its playing havoc with your TWC router. Can you reset the obi to factory settings and see if it will play nice?

Finally fixed the problem. Without changing the connections, I did a factory reset and though it wouldn't work, it would stop breaking my interwebz. I tried to configure it multiple times through my obitalk acccount but it would never go green and would stay online-unmanaged, so I dediced to delete it from my account and then add it as a new device and now it is working Big Grin
