I was at the store last week and it seemed that this particular model is the "first generation" which works "well," but "not as good as creating a seal as the new model." Not sure how much was sales BS since the price differential between the two was almost $20.

Yeah and you can only use them for tea.

Used in 1x, really like the product so far. Received this on Friday after intial (slightly different) FP post. Filled it up w/ near boiling water in Austin TX, steeped the tea, took lid off 1x in between (to get rid of leaves), drove 2.5 hours back towards Dallas and the tea was undrinkable - still too hot. I was impressed.

Sales BS, IMO. I turn mine upside-down to steep (allows the leaves to expand better) and have had no leakage. That seems like evidence of a good seal to me! Been using it for a couple of months. I highly recommend this product if you use loose-leaf tea, and it's probably not a bad deal even if you want to use it for tea bags or coffee. I'm tempted to buy another because I like it so much, but I really don't have use for another.

I wish the drinking lid and sipping lip could screw into each other, its annoying having to keep track of the extra lid. The "top" screws well into either lid (not directly into the thermos) and I cannot imagine any time of leak. I have used several other thermos and mugs- this one is the best I have at keeping things hot.
