AKA the Orient Blue Mako. This watch goes on sale once a while on this site. Not a crazy discount, but pretty much the lowest I could find when trying to get this watch. Discovered this maker / model when I recently got into timepieces and this is a pretty popular one for a beautiful quality automatic for sub $100. I own it, and love it. Just thought I would pass it along for anyone looking.

Deal now appears to be dead. It is $138 at DSW and $134.45 directly from Amazon (2-3 weeks ship). There is a "Make an offer" button on DSW that some people could try, but I believe people were already being put on a waiting list by the end of the deal, so the chances looks slim. Hope everyone that was able to jump in gets it and enjoys their new time piece!

Okay, the cheapest plastic Casio G-Shock digital doesn't miss 3 seconds per day like even the best mechanical watches do.

Why not call these watches what they are: Male jewelry.
Because things that you put on your wrist that tell time are usually called watches. Jewelry doesnt usually tell time.

A prius is a car. A lamborghini is also a car.

Repped and thumbs up!
I have Blue Mako for a year or so and it's beautiful and great watch! For 100 bucks it's slick deal because you wont get such a good japanese in house mechanical watch with solid bracelet. There is seiko 5 but you can't compare them and should have both if you are watch nut.
I want orange mako now. Very.

Well, the same people who buy the mechanical watches are not likely to touch fashion watches which are quartz.

There is some sort of.. value in knowing that your watch is self sustaining without any electronics.
I'm not sure how to classify it.

They aren't jewelry, cause if they were we wouldn't care what kind of movement they had.

Nice watch. Does the date need to be adjusted at the end of every month?
yes, every month that doesn't end in 31, lol

I'm concerned that the face isn't sapphire. How likely is it that this will scratch?
well, it's definitely more likely to scratch than sapphire. that's just a given. how likely depends on what you do day to day. i don't really baby mine and just treat it like your daily beater watch, and i don't see any noticeable marks.

if you are concerned about scratching it I recommend buying a sapphire crystal. I buy mine from yobokies for around $50 -$60

Guys, this is a great watch.. one of the best for under $300.

My question is how is it purchasing through Amazon?

If anything were to happen to it would they service it or replace it and for how long?

Thanks!

Well yes, of course it is. And? It's not like anyone needs that digital Casio watch anymore, practically everyone now carries a phone with a built-in clock that syncs time perfectly from its signal tower 24hrs a day.

But a well-made mechanical watch is classy. If your man jewelry consists of a classic watch and a wedding band you're doing just fine.

Gold necklace? ...maybe not so much. Big Grin

Don't know that Amazon would do anything about it, it does come with the 1yr warranty from Orient, the details of which are on the Amazon page.

i used to be anti-watch just as recent as a year ago, as i thought the cell phone pretty much even made your suggested casio g-shock obsolete. i don't personally care what time it is to the exact second, so accurate time keeping isn't my greatest concern. at my age, a watch just adds that bit of sophistication and style, so yes, along the lines of jewelry. like other posters said, i do also care about the movement. there's something about the mechanics that intrigue me. akin to why somebody would ever want to rebuild an engine of an old classic car when the latest kia probably pushes more power/efficiency. just my opinion.

that would somewhat defeat the purpose of this watch being affordable and carefree. scratch resistant minerals aren't really that easy to scratch, not saying its indestructible, but I carry a cheap g-shock casio watch (a glass of a somewhat inferior class) for over 10 years and that thing is still scratch-free. And frankly, the bracelet on the flipside is scratched showing years of abuse and dropping.

If you need some real life examples, go outside and look at your car's windshield. You'll have a hard time looking for scratches. That my friend is made from the same scratch resistant technology.

repped and orderd one I live good quality for the price time pieces , speaking of I am been very Impresses with Debaufre Ocean 1 Line of watches they are completely swiss made witha swiss movement a saphire crystal a drivers extension clasp . And honestly the quality is up there with likes of omega , Tag, Rolex etc . They have promotions rarely and you can get 42mm version for around $500.
Here is their collection if someone would be interested

I really shouldn't dignify this with a response, but..

Mechanical timepieces aren't about telling time perfectly, like your G. People appreciate them for their heritage, their technology, and their longevity. Even with regular battery changes, a quartz watch will not last forever. If a mechanical movement is taken care of, it can last a lifetime and beyond. Orient has been making watches long before many of you were born (yes, even the senior members). They continued making mechanical movements, even during the '80's quartz craze. Seiko recently became a majority owner of Orient, but the movements are still made in-house.

Anyway, I have 3 G-Shocks myself and love them, but I also own 7 Orients (4 of them Makos).

Buy this watch and don't look back! hug

"The Orient Blue Macao is small for my big wrist but it is really special with its beautiful blue colour dial and should be a collectable item."

collectable at 93.99 laugh out loud
I know people that collect all five colors of this watch (black, blue, orange, yellow, pepsi). The Orient Mako is quite popular among affordable watch enthusiasts. It might not be collectible in the traditional sense in expecting its value to increase over time but it's hard to find a comparable mechanical watch at this price with similar build quality and aesthetics. Timekeeping is consistently +/- 5 secs per day (very good for a mechanical watch) right out of the factory. I've owned a couple of this particular model, currently have the blue one on steel bracelet. Disclaimer: I'm not associated with OrientUSA or its affiliates.

See attached photos of the actual watch:

I just want to let you guys know that Orient has permanently retired their 50% off coupons. The best you can get now is 30% off. I guess HQ in Japan was getting upset about the ubiquitous coupon codes, and told Orient USA to cut it out. They retired the last 50% code in March.
