are the speakers good? I have been looking at them for a while now because of their omni directional qualities. I just picked up the AVR 1712 denon receiver, and have been reading the reviews that these speakers need a good quality receiver to sound good, will these do?

they are not so great had an opportunity to compare them with def tech procinema 600 which sounded much fuller (the sub was bit weak) .... i would suggest to test drive them before you pull the trigger... the omni polar technology is not for everyone.

I purchased these from another deal (for $330 at the time) and have them in a 2-story family room attached to the Pioneer VSX-1021k A/V receiver and they sound great to me.

Mirage makes amazing speakers! I own some 20+ year old loudspeakers made by them and I love them.

I 2nd this. I think these speakers are pretty good, but I would've never paid $800 for these. Then again, I'm a bit spoiled since I have Ascend Acoustics for my setup down in the basement. These are great little speakers, but nothing "WOW" about them. I got them for $299 about a year ago and it's good for the price...just don't expect Bose sound from them ;-) JK!

edit: mainly, my biggest gripe with these speakers is the center channel. It doesn't sound all that good.

go with a set of towers if you want the best possible quality.

yep. I think people overhyped the quality of these speakers by saying it was ridiculously awesome for it's size, awesome sounding, etc etc. I just didn't want others to feel that way too. They're good little speakers...but can't compare against bigger fuller speakers.

Funny, you guys are now swinging the hype pendulum too far in the other direction. Why not just keep things in perspective? Oh, yeah, because this is SD.

If you can use larger speakers, you can get more performance for the same money. (So really see if you can make that work.) If you can spend more money, you can get more performance.

But for the money, if someone wants small speakers, this is a very good deal. The quality of the sub and the speakers is good. In a smaller space, or as a step up from TV speakers or low quality home theater, they are a significant improvement.
