This is an ignorant statement I bet you are one of those people who use the term this computer is obsolete the minute you buy it.

Blu ray drives are making nothing obsolete, optical media is becoming obsolete because it is nearly useless. We need more bandwidth and higher quality streaming media (with no data caps).

For what it is, this is a good price.

kind of ironic to say Blurays are making these obsolete. I'd say SD cards and thumb drives are making Blurays obsolete. Great price.

Oh really now? 30" 2560x1600 ips panels make 1080p monitors obsolete, even though it's 5x more. 3960x CPUs make cpus obsolete and cost 5x more than the 2600k.

Your logic is flawed, blu-rays cost 5x more than this DVD drive, sure they're better, but that doesn't mean everyone needs them or gets them. You sir, are not a true slickdealer.

I think you guys missed the point. The point is, in the early days of DVDs, have a CDRW drive was not as valuable because they couldn't read DVDs. I just bought one of these DVD burners last week when they were $14 or $15, and I'm thinking about buying another one. The point is, a bluray drive can burn dvds and read bluray discs. I'm not arguing about the price, I'm just saying that these are going out because they can't read bluray discs, and that's something system builders need to consider.

I got one of these at 12.75 last week at newegg., my coworker and i agreed that Bray disc is too expensive to use and burning Pics/files with DVDs are just fine at the current cost ratio... BTW, the SATA Samsung burner is working as expected... at $12-13 it's well worth it!!!
