Best Big Screen LAPTOP for under $1,000?

So a family member of mine has a grand to spend on a laptop and he wants the biggest possible screen (I personally would want something portable), I guess he's looking for a desktop replacement. Can anyone suggest some nice 1080p cable 15" and up laptops? I would like to keep it as slim and light weight as possible but that may be a challenge finding one that's light and 17" or so...

I'm not that much of a Dell laptop fan, specially in the low price sector, but when it comes to the high line machines, I wouldn't get anything else but the Dell XPS.
I've had other brands and really like them, specially the Asus, but the XPS is the sweetest machine around.
The sound alone makes it worth more than the others.
I've heard people say that the built in sound meant nothing, as you can add any externals you want, but guess what... When you go somewhere with your laptop, you ain't gonna be lugging external speakers around, in fact, as you move around your house, you won't lug them around.
That XPS is super well built, looks like a million bux and sounds even better, and of course, it's got power galore.

I have a year old xps 15 and like it. Depending on where the laptop is going to be used you might want to think of a 15in and a external screen. Most often I find people tend to use these type of big laptops from the same place much of the time (thus a external screen would be good)
