If you want you can buy an HP which uses the 564 cartridges and then get a refill kit off of Ebay. I bought one for $20 and it works great. Yes it won't tell you how much ink is left but it will still allow you to print and you can probably tell with a test print page.
Thanks to SD, 7 new and 4 refurb HP TP for friends and family.

Just my $0.02, not sure I want semi-permanent printheads. Maybe the best compromise is the continuous ink system hack that feeds conventional printheads with bulk ink via some tubes. |

As for the printer in this deal, I have that one as well. It's a nice little printer for the price though it would be nice if it had a paper tray. It comes with two low capacity cartridges (which I have yet to use up). I do not believe they have a chip. From what I've read they are fairly easy to refill. I hope this helps you guys make a decision. |

That was ridiculous! C'mon guys, stop fighting. I just came here to see what the Walgreens people thought of the last deal. Instead, there's just a lot of whining and complaining about anything else... ![]() Last edited by rahd001; 04-17-2012 at 09:03 PM.. I hate it when "saving" money drives you to the poorhouse!

I've never had a Canon head become permanently clogged. (Epson pigment, yes). Ironically, I DID burn out a printhead using a CISS. They are very prone to air bubbles, and if you draw air into the print head, you bake the ink onto the heating element and kill it. Plus, Canon packs their printers (at least the three I've had) tight, so putting in the CISS requires hacking. PLUS, you don't get ink rewards with a CISS. ![]() So yes, I tried a CISS, but no, it's worse than using ink cartridges. As we know, it's cheaper to buy a new printer (with ink) than it is to buy a print head. |

This is a good back-up printer deal if you are strictly using it to print documents (back only). whenever you see a tricolor cartridge - meaning you can't refill it yourself, neither does staples, and that is 20$ for a new one. staples can refill a black ink cartridge for a reasonable price. To answer your questions, yes you can refill the black cartridge.
First go and get from amazon or any other notable sites that sell ink in bulk quantity, you should also buy some generic cartridge and caps for future usage (refill cartridge does reduce its capacity). Second, drill a hole with a driver or impact, but you need to make sure where to punch in (google, youtube). Then refill it with the refill kit (contains needles) and cap it up. You can also use generic cartridges which have cap and holes ready - just fill them. For that, you need to buy the ones with chips or install the chips ourselves The thing about DIY refill is that the printer ( in some cases) would not notice the ink amount or give out errors - just ignore them. Remember: this may screw up your printer. the less expensive it is, the more troubles it may give (so you will just go and buy new cartridges). From experience, cartridge capacity will go down to 50 - 70% after 10 refills. Wear some gloves, gonna be messy. I usually do not consider these printers but it'd make a good second printer. Here is the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xT...re=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ayschOFzwP4 this is a good cartridge already has holes.
