Try boiling water in the pot to loosen the black crust and gently scrape with a wood spoon while it's gently boiling.
Sorry for a little OT
I have a Lodge Logic enameled dutch oven (this one on Amazon[amazon.com]). One time I left it cooking on the stove for way too long and now I have black crusty residues that couldn't be removed even with vinegar. Any tips on how to clean it or should I just forget it and get a new one? TIA!
I only buy my cast iron from Lodge Logic, but's that just me.
Lodge Logic is made in the USA.
I'm with ya, but I'll do you one better: Lovingly aged, vintage Wagner cast iron. Sigh. I stumbled on a Wagner skillet at a thrift store while I was an undergrad. Hardly knew what it was, but I threw down a buck for it and still use it often...how does something like that turn into an obsession?? Anyway, now I have several pieces, along with some Lodge stuff. Weird how excited one can get about a piece of cookware that was truly made to last!
Now, snobbery aside, I am totally buying the braiser for a friend's wedding. Thanks OP!
