My parents are coming to US for the first time. I am planning to take them to Chicago. I can easily find a good Airfare, hotel and rental car deals. What I am looking for is discounts on Chicago attractions....like Willis Tower Sky Deck, John Hancock Observatory, Chicago Architecture boat tour...etc.
I already checked Citypass and Chicago go card......But wanted to see if there are any other options that would workout cheaper.
Do you have reciprocal memberships at any museums? My sister's museum memberships from CT worked at the Planetarium and Shedd. You could consider museum memberships. I guess the cost of our museum membership in Chicago are less than some in CA. My in-laws buy their museum memberships here, but live and go to the ones in CA.
As long as you are staying in the city proper, I would skip the rental car. There's really no need for it. I'd also choose either the Willis Tower OR the Hancock. There's really no need to do both. You could take them to a Cubs or White Sox game. Most of the time, mainly because both teams suck, the tickets are dirt cheap. If the weather is nice, it's a wonderful way spend an afternoon or evening.
I'd skip the Field Museum unless there's a really good exhibit. The aquarium is boring. I recommend spending a day in Oak Park, visiting the FLW studios and walking around. It's lovely and the architecture is first rate.
I know you asked for discounted things but with the exception of the City Pass offerings, most things are not discounted here. I'd make a list of the things you really want to do and go from there.
