ok i have a stupid question and seriously i really do want to know i read the manual and it does not say, can the hdmi pass through sound to the speakers in this monitor? or do you have to have a 3.5 connection for sound?

I have this monitor and I do audio AND video with HDMI. Love it!

However, I rarely use these speakers. They're, well, let's be honest. They stink! You can get $5 USB speakers that are a gajillion times better!

I have two of those LCDs. Great for gaming. Those speakers are quite all right for low sound levels in games/movies/internet (which I actually prefer).

I bought this last time it came up. For gaming and video, it's alright; for anything else, it's not great. I have had great difficulty getting the panel to accurately reproduce colors (and it doesn't help that it is sitting right next to two IPS panels). If I had it to do over, I would have opted for a 120hz 23.5" panel.

I can't speak to the audio other than to say that I've never heard a positive comment about it. I let my M-Audio speakers do that work.

This is a great monitor for the price. Viewing angles are ok. I use this as an secondary monitor for Hulu, Netflix, etc. in our office/spare bedroom. TU and Rep'd!

Have a pair of these on my desk at home. They are great for the price, I don't use the speakers.

I do some design work and they do almost as good as the Samsungs I have at my office in terms of color rendering, etc.

Great monitor. No audio out though, but the interface on my laptop allows me to only use video through the HDMI cable.

I upgraded from a 22" Samsung (226BW, which is a FANTASTIC monitor 5/5 on Newegg with somewhere around 1500 reviews - deactivated). I have not been disappointed when going to this Planar. I have played games on it ranging from Rome: Total War Gold to Battlefield 3, and not been disappointed. It's great on the web and at work.

Does it have the right features?

I can say that, although I bought this a long time ago for around 250 or 260, I don't regret this purchase at all. I love it and would buy another if I could find a way to justify it
