Thank you OP I did miss the Flex one but I think this will be fine as it does have the same functions and probably the same guts.

I have one of these and it's the best fm transmitter I have tried. I only use it for fm transmitter purpose and I get no static at all in most of the areas. I don't use the bluetooth calling function so can't comment on that.
PS- if you're in Chicago area, try 88.5 fm as that works the best for me. |

I am returning my $25 Accessory Power FlexSmart FM (model year 2012) one. Even at the price of $25, it's not worth it. The FM Transmitter is terrible. The volume is so low. Even with everything tune up to the max, it's just barely a little louder than my cellphone speaker. I turned my car radio to almost 90% and my phone media volume to 100%. With the cassette tape adapter, I only need 10% for car volume and it's already very loud. Most of the channels have alot of static. But when I got less static, then that's the max volume I can get, a little louder than cellphone built in speaker. Useless.
The FlexSmart Car Adapter (from the same company Accessory Power) is retailed at $45. It was on sale at $25 with their latest statement of "FM transmitter has been fixed and improved" on their 2012 model but it is still that bad. |

Some people said that this one doesn't have the goose-neck swivel thingy so it won't work for them. This one is cheaper and has better specs... You can always get an extension cord for your cigarette lighter plug and it's still cheaper... It'd probably work better than the goose-neck anyways.

I assume that if my car's stereo has a tape deck, I should just get a cassette adapter instead of a FM transmitter?

Actually, by search on the internet seemed to suggest that the cassette adapter was way better than using a FM transmitter. |

I remember reading something about FCC regulations limit the signal output of FM transmitter in the US so that's why quality is bad. I also remember some people modifying their FM transmitter on certain brands to boost the signal so you don't get interference from outside
