Just when you didn't think the economy could get any worse.

I saw this on the street today. How can the economy get any better when hard working companies can't find employees through no fault of their own. Can someone help this guy out? It breaks my heart that this is what we've come to.

I didn't black out his face like I normally would since he said it was OK to post it.

Sounds like they're trying to just get some free advertising.

I just thought it was funny. Man, some people are taking it way too seriously.

Although there is seriously a shortage of talent in the valley. The bidding wars of the dot com era returned a while ago.

What? I must be looking in the wrong places, I'm a programer and haven't been able to find any good leads for a while now.

Java, Cisco, Mainframe programmers are all in high demand with bonuses being offered to finding people right now in my area.

Perhaps if that hippie cut his hair he'd be able to land a job

He's not looking for a job. He's looking for people to hire. You know what they say about not dressing better than the boss. I found that a t-shirt and a pair of shorts is always a safe bet. I've worn suits twice in my life to interviews. It wasn't pretty.

He's either looking for free advertising or a cheap experienced programmer. If he wanted a cheap programmer go a local college and grab some Comp Sci students preparing to graduate (internships). What's the problem? People with a Comp Sci degree start their first job averaging a little over $50k and he probably want a fairly experienced one, and wants to pay half that. I can hear it already.. I'll give you x% of the company.. just wait till we make it big!! We'll put Facebook out of business!!

Starting salaries are a little higher in the Bay Area. Average is about $80K. Google bottoms out $90K. And this was last year before the job market got hot there. It's going to be more now. I know a kid graduating this year who's holding out for $100K. He'll get it. So far employers are trying to lowball him in the $80s and $90s. People are desparate. I've said it in other threads. The dot.com boom era salaries and perks are back.

take in account that I said "average" country wide. With the cost of living so high in Ca the salaries would have to somewhat correspond. I live in a pretty average cost of living state and average area. I can vouch for the averages straight out out of school. The thing to keep in mind is getting into google is TOUGH. I know a couple masters students that took their entrance exams and didn't make it all the way through. Apparently is a series of exams that go in rounds. When I'm referring to these people that didn't make it, I'm talking about straight A students, professional tutors etc.. Getting into google (at least at the google plex is a feat of it's own). I had a professor that quit and went to work at one of Google's data centers somewhere on the east coast. Every Comp Sci grad dreams of working at google.. rarely does it happen.
