Example. I got my EVO and was planning on adding my mom, fiancee and sister to my account. That would have been $130 for 2 lines $20 for sister $20 for mom - $34 discount +$10 data fee +$8 TEP for my sister = $154 Now take away the disount for my sister and mother. ($8) Now add $10 for each of my additional lines ($30) Now take away the second line of the family plan ($4) Now increase the TEP by $3 Now increase their other admin fees $2 = $200 Thats a 30% jump from just 2 years ago. |

All im reading is a bunch of complaints about sprint, why not put some blame on asurion? They run the whole insurance thing.
You think your getting owned by sprint now? Just wait when tmobile and sprint goes down then you guys will take it up the ass with no lube by verizon and at&t. Sprint is the last savior for postpaid carrier subscribers. They are certainly cheaper then the big two thats for sure. |

so if you break your phone after ten months, it would be a total cost of $260? isn't that the price of a used phone from pretty much anywhere? When are phone companies going to start loading their phones with time-triggered viruses to render them useless to trick us into thinking WE did something? only a matter of time

100 bucks they would send me a "referb" Since the phone still worked flawlessly since the port was cleaned (and has for 10+ months since) I opted to not replace the phone. bought one off CL for 50 a few weeks later. I activated it for a few weeks to make sure it was a good working unit and transferred the service back to my "water damaged" phone. I spent 50 bucks on my insurance plan. Thus far, it's cost me 5 bucks a month and goes down in monthly cost every month it's there in the drawer ready to replace my current phone. Sprint has yet to offer me a reason to sign a new contract and get a new phone.
Correct. sprint charges 35 bucks I think it is if you bring your phone in to their repair center for repairs if it is in warranty but you don't pay the sprint insurance tax. Last edited by merkurfan; 04-20-2012 at 05:27 PM.. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

It would be cheaper to break my contract and pay the ETF fee and buy a new phone off amazon or best buy for a better price than a new phone from sprint.
In one year lets say you pay $11x12 = $132 for the TEP for one year Lose your phone/water damage and pay $ 150 deductible. You are now at a total for $282 if you have TEP for one year and lose your phone. At that point your ETF fee has decreased from $350 and probably $300 or less after a year So at a point the TEP would cost more after a certain time and not worth it in my opinion. Once they jack the price I will be taking it off. Even for repairs I would rather pay the one time $35 fee to fix it. Just my thoughts on Asurion's price increases. |

ya.. it seems if you complain enough you eventually get what you want out of them. I picked up a couple of windows phones during their smart phone give away so likely once my contract is up I will be ending my 15 year love/hate relationship with sprint anyways. 2 phones 1500 minutes 160 a month after tax. or.. 2 phones prepaid unlimited minutes, 2 gigs of data (the new unlimited ) for 30-50 a line or 100 max just makes more sense.

A very, very good example of this is in the video game industry. OLD PlayStations and Sega systems and their cartridges still play to this day. However more modern Xbox360's have the highest failure rate of any console in history, called RROD. Microsoft pretty much got caught doing this though so they had to extend warranties for that specific defect to cover the warranty up to 3 years for that fault. Dell used to do this with some of their computers and I think Asus/Acer does this with some of their monitors. They put in cheap Chinese capacitors that will blow out just after the 1 year warranty ends or a little bit afterwards. The average consumer would have no idea what failed or how to fix it (I wouldn't even know from first glance without taking it apart piece by piece), so they just buy a new one. Of course they have to redesign them for the European market due to EU regulations requiring a 2 year warranty minimum on consumer electronics. Apple is notoriously famous for planned obsolescence as well for building in batteries into their devices that will fail after sometime, as they are not user replaceable. Anyway what you described already exists, and has for sometime. You're just not paying attention to it. There's a whole Wikipedia page of the different ways companies implement planned obsolescence. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plan...solescence |
