You are paying for the extended options MS gives you such as party chat and a seemless connection that rarely has down time unlike PSN. I don't mind paying 35 bucks a year. I have a PS3 too but not huge on the multiplayer on it. When I play uncharted 3 or other games I always play with people from other countries and it seems like it lags a lot more. II never get lag on 360.
awesome, repped for a month to find at $35/yr subscription and still play.
funny, my live subscription lapsed 3 days ago at the $36.99/yr price directly from microsoft. tried calling them but since it lapsed, they would only offer the full $59.99/yr price, LO fu*king L; i've never and will never pay $60/yr for live.
I completely agree with you. I do not play online or use any of the chat features. All I want is Netflix streaming but out of principle I refuse to get Gold because other devices (my bluray player) do not require an additional subscription for access to Netflix. I would use the Xbox netflix app if I didn't have to pay for gold.
I agree. It's like you're paying for a service on top of a service. It makes no sense.
And if Microsoft wants to say "you are paying to use our servers", that is also incorrect as you are streaming from Netflix's servers.
WARNING!!!!!! I highly suggest not linking your Paypal account or credit card to Live. I was hacked in October, and luckily I did not have my paypal or CC linked. I have had friends who's cc were used to purchase ms points and XBL games. The process with MS to get my lost points back was extremely horrible and it took about 4 months to get my account back.
Thank you for your interest in the promotion. Based on your current Xbox LIVE membership, the subscription offer that you are trying to access is not applicable at this time. Please click the “OK” button to see available subscription offers.
This is actually a serious question, but can someone please explain to me why Microsoft requires you to pay for a Gold Membership just to stream Netflix, Youtube, etc.?
Not to start a console war, but PS3 doesn't. Nor does Google TV, Roku, etc.
I will never understand why I need to pay to stream a service that I already pay for. It makes no sense.
I see 3 possibilities:
1. Because people keep paying them for it despite the free alternatives.
2. They might do the coding and maintenance for those applications.
3. Google/Netflix made a gold membership requirement for these applications and get a kickback from Microsoft for making gold membership more attractive.
I was able to snag this but do I have a question do I cancel now or should I call on the 18th before I'm charged? I'm not sure when to call or when to cancel so I'm not charged.
You can set your account to not renew automatically right now on Xbox.com. You should do that now, so you don't forget. No need to cancel. The account will just be reverted back to a free account when the month is up.
