Maximum power consumption on the AVR3650 is 480 watts. No way it can do 110W per channel with all channels driven - it would need to draw ~1300W from the wall to produce real 770W of audio output power.
Then again, all receivers lie about output power. Some receivers lie less, though.. My Onkyo HT-RC360 is specced at 100WPC, and 6.2 amp power draw. 6.2A * 120V = a healthy 744W. Not bad for $250 + tax out the door. Also, how does Harman Kardon's room correction compare with Audyssey? |

Total home theater noob here. I've been wavering about jumping into the home theater realm for a while now. Every time a deal for a receiver or speaker package comes along here on SD, my interest is renewed. However, I'm hesitant to dive in since I don't know much about it, and I live in quite a small apartment so I always have doubts that it's worth the effort and investment.
The HK 1565 sure looks like a sleek unit, though! My first instinct is that I'm just being a sucker for aesthetics, but I know Harman Kardon is a great name in audio. There aren't a lot of reviews on Amazon, though. Can somebody point me to a trusted review resource? Other receivers I've considered are the entry level Denon AVR-1312 [amazon.com] or the entry level Pioneer units. Like I said, total noob so any advice is appreciated. TIA! |

I wish I knew how these compared to the older Harmans.
The 2005 silver "two tone" models are awesome. Does anyone know how these compare? 0.1% distortion? Really? My HK receivers 145, 325, 254 are way under rated at 40 - 65 WPC and they will crush the walls with good speakers and subs. That is high current 20-20k rating. What is this new stuff? Thanks for insightful answers. BTW, HK should generally be much better than Pioneer and Sony, and compare with Denon (or older stuff = better)... |
